Birding Trails
Wake up to birdsong in Hartola’s lush woods. Spot vivid Himalayan species hidden among oak trees and orchards — perfect for slow mornings and soulful sightings.
Experience
A peaceful Himalayan hamlet perched at 7,200 ft, Hartola lies within the Maheshkhan Reserve Forest (Bhowali Range) — one of the richest ecological zones in the region. Known for its orchard-covered slopes and dense oak woods, the area teems with avian life. Birdwatchers, both seasoned and amateur, are drawn to its serene trails and uninterrupted views.
Hartola and the surrounding Mukteshwar belt are listed in the Cornell ornithology database with sightings of over 65 resident bird species — from the plum-headed parakeet to the Himalayan bulbul — and an even greater number of migratory species across seasons. The absence of traffic and low population make this haven a true sanctuary for wildlife.

Local Experiences
I visited Dev shakti chalet, Hartola in November 2022 with my friends. The weather was absolutely fantastic. The view of Kumayun range from the chalet was spectacular. We had our fill of Mt.trishul, Nandadevi etc in all their glory during our stay. The chalet was spacious and well maintained. The staff was very helpful and accomodating. Most amazing thing about the chalet is the barbecue party in dying light of the evening. Food was absolutely delicious, fruits and vegetables fresh. Many many thanks to the manager Umeshji for making our stay in the chalet so memorable
